Library / Books

Did you know that you can browse the local library card catalog, and reserve books online?  Its a great way to save time and get your kids interested in reading.  You just reserve a book and tell them which library you'd like to pick it up from (usually the main library on 3rd St). Then the library will notify you by phone when your book is ready to  pick up.

There are two ways to connect to the library's card catalog, the easiest is through their web page http://www.sonoma.lib.ca.us/ Although it's a little slow it has features like links to websites that have been checked and recommended by the American Library Association.

Another way to connect to the library is through a program on your computer called TelNet.  You can get to it using the following link  telnet://sonoma.lib.ca.us/   It connects directly to the  library's card catalog as if you were sitting in the library.  Although it's not very "pretty", the telnet interface is very fast and gives you access to everything in the card catalog.

Another great library resource is Santa Rosa Junior College. http://www.santarosa.edu/library/catalog.shtml has an extensive online catalog.

At SRJC you can also search hundreds of databases and even magazines online at http://www.santarosa.edu/library/ftdb/  but you have to request an ID to use them.  There is a link on the page to let you get an ID online.
